Important alert

  • Do not scan: Abandoned hardware, including leads, lead extenders, or lead adaptors
  • Do not scan: Impedance measurements are out of typical range. The typical range is 250-2000 Ω
  • Do not scan: Unstable capture thresholds or capture threshold values of > 2.5 V at a pulse width of 0.5 ms
  • Do not scan: Complaints of diaphragmatic stimulation at a pacing output of 5.0 V and at a pulse width of 1.0 ms in patients whose device will be programmed to an asynchronous pacing mode when MRI settings are enabled
  • Do not scan: Any prone or lateral recumbent patient positions, or positions where the patient's arm is raised above the head are excluded and have not been tested.

1Pre-scan checks

    • Review the patient's ID card and Parameter printout (generated by the Nanostim Programmer Link) to obtain the model number (LSP102) of the device.
    • Confirm with a previous x-ray to verify that the patient has a Nanostim leadless pacemaker. An x-ray can also indicate whether the patient has any additional active or abandoned implanted hardware.
    • Patients can be considered safe for an MRI scan only if the implanted system consists of a Nanostim MRI Leadless Pacemaker.
    • Consult the patient's device management physician or clinician, or review the printout of the MRI parameters provided by them.

    2MRI scan conditions

    1.5 T

Scanner typeCylindrical-bore magnet, horizontal field orientation
    Spatial gradient≤19 T/m (1900 G/cm)
    Gradient slew rate≤200 T/m/s
Whole-body SAR≤4 W/kg (First Level Controlled Operating Mode), or ≤2 W/kg (Normal Operating Mode)
    Head SAR≤3.2 W/kg
Scan region / position conditions• Scan Regions: Full Body• Patient Position: Supine, patient's arms at side

    3RF COIL / RF excitation

RF coil• Body RF transmit coil with any receive coil• Use of some local RF transmit-receive coils in either First Level Controlled Operating Mode or Normal Operating Mode has been demonstrated to be conditionally safe for use in the MRI environment, including: RF transmit-receive head coil (quadrature only) / RF transmit-receive lower extremity coil (quadrature only) / RF transmit-receive upper extremity coil (qudrature only)• Use of local RF transmit coils placed directly over the device is untested.

    4Monitoring & emergency response

      • Proper patient monitoring must be provided during the MRI scan. This includes continuous monitoring of the patient's hemodynamic function.
      • Since the MRI environment may interfere with the patient monitoring system, it is recommended that more than one of the following systems be used: electrocardiography, pulse oximetry, noninvasive blood pressure measurements.
      • If the patient's hemodynamic function is compromised during the MRI scan, discontinue the MRI scan and take the proper measures to restore the patient's hemodynamic function.
      • Verbal communication with the patient during the MRI scan is recommended.
      • Keep an external defibrillator available during the MRI scan.

      5Post-scan checks

        • The original pacemaker settings must be reprogrammed by the patient's device management physician or clinician.

        6Other information

        • Do not bring the Merlin™ Patient Care System (PCS) Model 3650 or the Nanostim Programmer Link Model S1LINK into Zone IV (MR scanner magnet room), as defined by the American College of Radiology. These devices are MR Unsafe.
        • Image distortion can result from the presence of the device within the field of view. Image artifacts and distortion resulting from the presence of the device within the field of view must be considered when selecting the field of view and imaging parameters. These factors must also be considered when interpreting the MRI images.
        • The Nanostim device might interfere with the acquisition of MRI data, resulting in artifacts that might compromise MRI images.

These conditions are based on the source document shown below (revision and date). Before scanning, verify the patient's complete system (device, leads, and any other implants) against the latest manufacturer labeling.
